How to remove stubborn waterproof makeup
Removing stubborn waterproof makeup can be challenging, but there are effective methods to make it easier. Start with an oil-based makeup remover or cleansing balm, which breaks down waterproof formulas effectively. Apply it to a cotton pad, hold it on the makeup for a few seconds, and gently wipe it away. Alternatively, you can use micellar water specifically designed for waterproof makeup; soak a cotton pad and press it against the area before wiping it off. Cleansing oils are another great option—massage a small amount onto dry skin and then rinse with water. For a more accessible solution, baby oil or coconut oil can also effectively remove makeup when applied to a cotton pad. After using any remover, it’s beneficial to follow up with warm water and a soft cloth to ensure all residue is gone. Consider double cleansing with a gentle facial cleanser after your makeup remover to thoroughly cleanse your skin. Finally, be patient with stubborn areas, especially around the eyes, allowing the remover to sit for a moment before wiping. Always remember to moisturize afterward to keep your skin healthy!
Keeping your makeup fresh in hot weather
Choose water-based foundations or tinted moisturizers over heavier formulas to prevent melting. Set your makeup with translucent powder and use a setting spray for longevity. Throughout the day, carry oil-absorbing sheets to blot excess shine without disturbing your makeup. Opt for long-wearing, waterproof products for eyeliner and mascara to avoid smudging. With these tips, you can enjoy the heat while maintaining a fresh look!
Do you really need Primer?
You don’t have to use primer before your makeup, but it’s definitely a good idea! It makes your skin smoother, helps your makeup go on better, and can keep it looking fresh for longer. Plus, it can help with things like oil control and reducing the look of pores. If you want your makeup to really pop and stay put, finding the right primer for you is worth it!
Pairing your Foundation & Primer perfectly
Makeup comes in two main types: water-based and oil-based. Water-based products are usually lighter and good for oily or combination skin. They hydrate and blend well without feeling heavy. Oil-based products, on the other hand, are richer and work better for dry or mature skin, as they provide extra moisture and can create a smoother finish.
For the best results, it's best to pair makeup products of the same type. So, if you start with a water-based primer, stick with water-based foundations. This helps everything blend seamlessly and ensures your makeup lasts longer without separating or looking patchy. The same goes for oil-based products—keeping it consistent helps create a more cohesive and long-lasting look.
Pressed or loose powder?
Loose and pressed powders both make your makeup look smoother and last longer. Loose powder is awesome for blurring and feels light, while pressed powder is super handy for touch-ups, traveling and securing. Generally as long as your base suits your skin type, both pressed and loose powder will work. Personally, I like to use both - baking with Huda Easy Bake to begin and finishing the look with Rimmel Stay Matte Powder.
Beauty Blender or Brush?
Both are awesome, but it depends on the vibe you're going for!
❀ Beauty Blender: Perfect for that soft, dewy, natural look. It’s great for blending liquid and cream products effortlessly.
❀ Brush: Gives more coverage and control, plus it's perfect for powders or when you want a flawless, full-face finish.
Bottom line: Go for a blender when you want a light, blended finish and a brush for more precision and coverage. It’s all about what feels right for your makeup style!
How to know what skin type you have
To put it as simply as possible, try starting by cleansing your face and letting it sit bare for about an hour. If your skin feels greasy, especially in the T-zone, you’ve got oily skin. If it’s tight or flaky, that’s dry skin. If you have both oily and dry areas, it’s combination skin. Normal skin feels balanced and comfortable, while sensitive skin might react easily or get red. Once you know your type, it's a lot easier to pick the right products for your skin! If you're still stuck, go for combination products!
How to ensure a long-lasting lip combo
❀ Start with Exfoliation: Gently exfoliate your lips to remove dead skin. This creates a smooth surface and helps your lip products adhere better.
❀ Moisturize: Apply a lip balm or primer to hydrate and prep your lips. Let it absorb before applying any color.
❀ Use a Lip Liner: Outline and fill in your lips with a lip liner that matches your lipstick. This acts as a base and helps prevent feathering.
❀ Apply Lipstick: Apply your lipstick evenly, and blot with a tissue.
❀ Set with Powder: Lightly dust translucent powder over your lips using a tissue as a barrier to set the color and make it last longer.
It never hurts to carry a touch up kit for on the go.
